Not only is it the world’s worst conversation strategy (cue immediate awkward silence as both parties grasp for a topic), it’s telling yourself and others that bad feelings are something to be swept under a big ol’ rug.
You don’t need to answer a “How are you?” with a heartbreaking rendition of All By Myself, but be honest. Mention that you’re a little worried about money. Or that you had a crappy night’s sleep. Letting out a little bit of steam now and then feels so much better than boiling over later down the line.
