Pregnant on the tube? Sit down! Old on the tube? Take a seat! Middle-aged, carrying ten bags, tears in your eyes? No seat for you!
We are more than happy to give up our seats for those deemed ‘vulnerable’ in society. But there are two problems here.
- Not everyone labelled ‘vulnerable’ feels that way.
- Other people need kindness too.
Who cares if it’s an awkward moment of “I-don’t-think-you’re-pregnant-you-just-look-sad”? We’ve all been there – squashed between commuters after the worst day at work, lugging a massive gym bag home. A seat can be a lifesaver. If you don’t need it, give it up.
